Spring? Is that you? After a long winter, we're all itching to get our tools out of the shed and start prepping our yard for the season ahead.
But before you start, you'll want to make sure that your tools are ready to use and in proper working condition. Regardless of how long they have been sitting in storage, here are a few simple tips to help get your tools ready to use all season long.
First things first, you'll want to perform a visual inspection. Look for any cracks in the cutter blade guards or housing deflectors and make sure to re-tighten all accessible screws and nuts. This is also a great time to replace the trimmer line, sharpen any blades on any cutting tools or attachments and to change or sharpen your saw chain. Check and change the oil and air filter if required.
For any gas powered units, check your spark plugs and start with fresh fuel. If you used Stihl MotoMix Premixed Fuel and have left this in your tank over the winter - thats fine! MotoMix® can be left in the tank for up to 2 years without potentially hurting your machine.
For corded equipment, inspect all your power cords and make sure your battery is charged to 100% for all your battery-powered units so they are ready to go.
Lastly, make sure that you double-check all your personal protective equipment. A crack on your helmet or a cut on your chaps means it is time to invest in some new PPE.
