Spring Lawn Care Tips

After a long Canadian winter, the first thing you want to do is clean up your lawn. After the snow has melted, you'll notice that gravel, stones and other debris are left behind - and you'll want to remove that to give your grass room to grow. The easiest way to do that is by using a PowerSweep. This attachment features a rubber paddle that allows you to get rid of pebbles, stones and other debris without damaging your lawn and is available for use on the Stihl YardBoss and KombiSystem.

Once you have cleared your lawn of debris you're ready for the next step - aerating your lawn.

Why is aerating so important? Simply speaking - aerating in spring will give your lawn a breath of fresh air. It will enhance fertilizer and water uptake of your lawn, create strong roots, reduce water runoff and much more. The RL - MM Lawn Aerator Attachment on your Yard Boss Engine punctures the surface of the lawn allowing the air, moisture and nutrients to get to the roots.

Before you start aerating - you'll want to give your lawn a quick cut to no more than 1.5”. Once you're done, water your lawn for a few days - or until you can easily push your finger roughly 1” into the ground. This is important because if the ground is too hard - the aerator won't be able to penetrate the soil.

Now is a great time to overseed your lawn. When you overseed, grass will root and grow in the holes delivering lush and consistent results

Achieving a healthy, green lawn isn't difficult - but it does require some time, effort and the proper tools. Contact your local Martin Deerline to add any of these tools or attachments to your fleet and you'll see how easy creating the lawn of your dreams really is!
