Mulch, Bag or Side Discharge?
It is a question we are often asked, and there is really no one answer fits all. It all depends on what you're trying to accomplish with your lawn.
Read on as we touch on the benefits of each method
Mulching
Mulching is a common method whereby the discharge chute is blocked off and baffles are installed around the blades. This keeps the clippings within the deck, and cuts them up ten times smaller than regular clippings if side discharging.
This is the natural way to feed your lawn, as the smaller clippings are a great source of slow-release nitrogen for your lawn keeping it looking lush and green for longer.
Fast growing conditions will warrant more frequent mowing when mulching, and it's also best to do when the lawn is dry to avoid clumping.

Bagging
For the most manicured and clean look in your yard, bagging is the way to go. Quickly pick up debris and dispose of it elsewhere!
Bagging clippings can prevent dispersing weed seeds or diseased clippings across your lawn. It is also a great option when the grass has gotten too long to avoid thatch and clumping. Clippings are also great to add to a compost pile to be used down the road.
The easiest way to say it is if you want no clippings left behind - bag it! It's a little more work, but it will get you the clean look you want!
Side Discharging
Side discharge is the easiest and most convenient way to mow. It is also the best option if you have no choice but to mow in wet conditions. Side discharging gives the extra power to get wetter clippings out from under the deck as quickly as possible to avoid build-up. If you do not mind the clippings on the ground, or don't require a more manicured look, side discharge may be your method of choice - simply cut the grass and let the clippings fall where they may.
As you can see there is not one simple method that suits all lawn types and grass conditions, the best may be a mix of all three to keep a great looking yard and keep it healthy with natural nutrients.
